High tech with a human touch.

Unbelievably tired. Blogging from my phone again. This will be super short. Will update tomorrow. Go watch the talk by Aparna Rao about high tech art. It's funny and entertaining. You shoul enjoy it.
Day 29.

Good night.

Absurdity.

Day 28
Because my life has been pretty crazy lately, and I think sometimes things just seem a little absurd. So I thought this video seemed fitting. It's this guy, Charlie Todd, who does improv and flash mob sort of stuff. He talks about and shows footage from some of the stuff he's done. It's a pretty entertaining talk.

So, in other thoughts, I basically got out of work on time today. Only about 15 minutes late. I was slightly disappointed. I could really use the money some extra hours would be helpful. I think they're trying to avoid paying me for overtime. Darn. That's what I was hoping for. Plus, this whole getting off work on time thing has really messed up my internal clock. I feel like it is way later than 6pm here, and it's not. Should make for some interesting times tomorrow when I have to wake up around 4am because I have to be at work at five. It's a good thing I love this job.

Sleep & Dreams.

Okay. First off, I updated the last two posts so the videos are now embedded. If you didn't watch them I encourage you to do so. Especially the one from two days ago about how to spot a liar. It's really good.

So I'm still quite tired. I didn't get too much sleep last night. I woke up really early, but I felt super refreshed. By the time I had to go to work, though, I was tired already. I had another early day at work, and was supposed to get off at one. Today I only stayed for an extra hour and a half. Not so bad. It's looking like I'll end up with some overtime for this week so I'm totally cool with that. I'm really enjoying work which makes it easy when I have to stay later than I'm scheduled.

Last night, in the few hours of sleep that I did get, I had a crazy dream, but it was really vivid and when I woke up I remembered every detail. It's a long story, but I got attacked by a gang of guys on motorcycles when I was driving and they caused me to crash. Then they all just drove away except for one, who, after emptying out my wallet, pulled me out of my car. Before he did he said I had the option of staying there and dying or going with him and living. So I chose living (my car was on fire...). So he took me and we drove off to get his car (maybe his, maybe stolen). Then he turned out to be the nicest kidnapper ever. We went and walked around the mall. I was scared for my life but he was being nice. Then we slept in the car over night, and the next day he asked if I wanted to go get food so I said sure. He asked me where I wanted to go and I said Panera. I was hoping that while at Panera I could get someone to call the cops since I work there and know everyone. We went to Panera, and while the kidnapper got in line I hung back a little and ran into my general manager, who started to get angry with me for not showing up to work that morning. Then I told him to call the cops because I'd been kidnapped. He thought I was joking at first, but then I told him that I was serious and he said he would go call them. So I got into line with the kidnapper and we ordered, and he was still super nice, but I was still rather scared. While we were eating the cops showed up and arrested him, and he seemed kind of upset that I would do that to him. It was weird too because I kind of felt bad for having him arrested since he was so nice to me. So then I was just super upset because it finally hit me what had happened to me. The cops had a lot of questions for me which upset me even more. My manager stayed with me the whole time and was super supportive. When the cops wanted me to come to the police station and answer some more questions as well as get the stuff the kidnapper took from me, my manager drove me there. Weird dream.

Sorry for the long story but I really felt the need to share that. So anyway, for today's talk I was looking for something about dreams but couldn't find anything. So I did find a talk by Jessa Gamble about our natural sleep cycle (which clearly mine is all sorts of messed up). It's short,  but interesting. Hope you enjoy it.

Day 27. (Almost done)

Okay. Good night.

Got Brains?

Okay super super tired today. Stayed at work for an extra two hours today as well. Another early day tomorrow. So I haven't even gotten onto my computer yet so I'm blogging from my phone again.

Day 27

Today's talk is by Allan Jones about mapping the brain. The brain really fascinates me and this talk is really interesting. For now you'll have Togo find it on the TED website. Tomorrow I will try to get on and embed it, along with yesterday's video as well.

Here it is!

Okay good night.

Lies and Honesty

Okay so I'm super tired and I'm not going to lie: I'm in bed right now (7:30pm) and have been for about an hour. I had work at 5:30 this morning and should have gotten off at one, but instead got off at three. Then I had a group meeting to work on a project. So I'm a bit tired and since I'm blogging this from my phone I can't exactly embed a video. So I will edit it tomorrow to embed the video. Until then you can go to the TED website and death for it.

Day 26
I found this talk by Pamela Meyer about how to spot a liar. People are actually trained in detecting liars and she talks about all the signs if a liar. It's quite interesting to think about because we know everyone lies on a daily basis. It's good to know the signs of a liar.

Here it is!

Good night y'all. Time for some sleep.

Missing days, doodles, and music.

So I apparently forgot that yesterday existed. haha. I had work all day then had to finish up a paper before class. After class I was so tired all I did was eat dinner and go to sleep. This blog didn't even cross my mind. So I'm just going to post two talks today to make up for it. Since this challenge is coming to an end pretty soon I'm starting to think about the next challenge. I'm not quite sure what it's going to be but I'm thinking about something that won't take up as much time. Between the end of the semester projects and assignments I have, as well as having work now (~35 hours per week). So I'm trying to think of something that can take up only a few minutes each day, and perhaps something that I can blog about from my phone. I almost might take a few days off in between challenges. We'll see how it goes.

30-Day Challenge #1: TED Talks
Days 24 & 25

I'll let you just figure these out on your own. The first is by Sunni Brown about doodling and how it can help us. I was thinking about this last night in class when I was doodling while we had a guest speaker. I was fully paying attention, but it didn't look that way to others.

Now this next one is a bit different. It's not quite a talk. Apparently when you're on the TED website and click the link to see talks that are labeled as 'beautiful' the results will mostly be musical performances. Not your typical TED talk, and not really a talk. But still worth watching. So here's a video of Imogen Heap performing "Wait It Out". Hope you enjoy.

Dont wait to be a hero.

Hey there! So today has been a great day for me. It was my first day off from work since I started. So it was a very relaxing day. I watched some movies and did some schoolwork. I also got a fantastic piece of mail. Some time last month I had won a contest to win a signed copy of Rocco Dispirito's book Now Eat This. I'm a huge fan of Rocco so I was super excited to get this today. I've been hoping for it every day I check my mail and today I just got this feeling that I would get it. I felt that way mostly because there were so many things keeping me from my mail. First when I went to check my mail the postal worker had just gotten there (later than usual) so I couldn't check yet. Then I tried again and the maintenance crew was leaf blowing all around the mail boxes and I didn't want to get all that dust blown into my eyes. So I was finally able to check my mail right before I had class and I was so excited that it was in there! All I had tonight was class and then I made a delicious dinner.

My signed copy of Now Eat This! 100 Quick Calorie Cuts by Rocco DiSpirito

I finished dinner and was going to come online and blog, but my Internet hates me and isn't working. So I'm blogging from my phone right now. So I do have a talk for today, but can embed it. Also since I got it from the TED app I can't even give you a link to it. So tomorrow I will have to get on here and edit this. But I'll tell you a little about the talk.

Day 24?

The talk I found today is by Mark Bezos about what he has learned from being a volunteer firefighter. He gives a quick little story about a fire he was at and the task he was given. The moral of his story is that if you have something to give then you should give and not wait.

Big Brother is Watching...

Today was a little less crazy. Thankfully. We're getting the hang of things at Panera so it went pretty well today. We did time trials and it turned out pretty well. I still don't think opening will be all that smooth but we'll see how it goes.

30-Day Challenge #1: TED Talks
Day 23

This is an interesting talk I found today. It's a talk by Hasan Elahi all about how the FBI thought he may have been a terrorist. He talks about the questions they asked him, and what he did to show them that he's not a terrorist. He went to extremes to keep track of everything he's done to show the FBI that he has nothing to hide. It's kind of funny how detailed he was. And then he ties in social media. These days I think everything ties in to social media. haha enjoy.

Youtube, Signs from God, and little bit of crazy.

So my day hasn't been crazy enough already, but when I went to the TED website it had a nice little message saying that their website is offline for maintenance. They had a link to their youtube videos though so at least I could still do this. So today's TED talk will be embedded from youtube. But firtst, a little about my day. (Hopefully you want to hear about it...)

I woke up an hour before my alarm was set to go off, so I just got up anyway. I had work at 8, and it was a long day because we are getting close to being done training so we're really getting into our positions. It's challenging, we'll get the hang of it soon enough though. After work I went home, relaxed a bit and then went to church. I wore this new pair of heels to church, and they're real nice and totally acceptable for church. This old lady totally looked at my shoes, judged me, and definitely gave me some dirty looks. Perfect. Power went out during mass (a sign from God?), but then came back on. I got out of church and then was going to go to BWW to watch the LSU/Bama game, but by the time I was able to get there it was just way to crowded. So then I tried Red Robin, but again way to crowded. So I decided to just go home, until I decided I really wanted a drink. But where to go? So I ended up at the liquor store which happens to be right next to the Panera I work at. Pretty sure my manager saw me leaving the liquor store, and I definitely have work in the morning so that was interesting. Then I went into Publix to get some soda and also milk (I will be needing coffee in the morning), and my total came to $6.66 (another sign from God?) Finally, I'm back in my apartment, watching the LSU/Bama game (Geaux LSU! in case you're wondering), and relaxing a little.

30-Day Challenge #1: TED Talks
Day 22

So, since today's talk has to be a TED talk from youtube, I found a TED talk about youtube. It's by Margaret Stewart, and it's about youtube's copyright stuff. It's interesting to see how they find copyright infringement and what gets done about it. Enjoy!

Oh, and last Snowtober update: my parents got power back for good (hopefully). It only took a week. It's Halloween in CT today. haha. Schools have lost a full week because of this storm, so on top of the week they lost for Hurricane Irene, they are prob going to lose spring break. I mean, it's not even winter yet. Oh well. Remember, remember the fifth of November.

Stick Figure Stories

I know you're getting tired of me saying this, but I'm tired. Seriously this week is taking a toll on me. And tomorrow it gets crazier. Tuesday it will reach a new level of cray. And Wednesday? Wednesday my life will reach insane. So I won't even bother going on.

30-Day Challenge #1: TED Talks
Day 21

This one's just fun to watch. It's a talk by Marco Tempest. Really it's just him bringing a stick figure to life. It's really cool though. Like I said, fun to watch.

And sadly, for some reason I can't embed it so you'll have to go watch it on Ted: here.

Go watch it. It's worth it.

Oh and Snowtober update: It's nearing the end of darkness. My parents got power back, but then it went out again and is still out. But there's hope. CT should be fully restored in terms of power by the end of the weekend.

Neverending crazy.

Ohmygoodnessthishasbeenacrazyweek. Got that? Yeah, so if you didn't notice, I've been having a bit of a crazy week. Sadly, my life won't stop being crazy anytime soon. The beginning of this week was a bit crazy because I had this massive paper due Wednesday at five and I was really struggling to get it to the point that I'd be satisfied with. I think it ended up being a really good paper, but it definitely took a lot of time. Plus it was a pretty intense topic and needed to be extremely detailed so it took a toll on my brain. On top of that, I started my new job yesterday. I'm working at Panera Bread. It's a new Panera Bread that is opening next week so it's been crazy training and stuff. Next week will definitely continue to be crazy because it will be the opening. It will be busier than a Panera normally would, it will be mostly new people working who aren't 100% sure of what they're doing, and there's going to be far more employees working at once than it would normally have. So that craziness will continue next week. Not to mention that I still have classes and assignments too. Fun fun. I'm also likely to be opening some days which means I'll start work at 5am.

30-Day Challenge #1: TED Talks.
Day 20.

So, in honor of my overloaded brain this week, I found this TED talk by Iain McGilchrist about the brain. He explains the division of the brain. It's pretty interesting, and it's an animated drawing tyoe video which is cool. It's a Best of the Web talk, so it's embedded from youtube. Enjoy.

Oh, and for a Snowtober update, my parents are still without power, as is about 42% of my hometown. Should have full restoration by the end of the weekend. Insane. Unacceptable, CT, unacceptable.

Crazy days = Brain overload

Okay. So here's the deal. I posted yesterday my post for Halloween right? Since my internet was down I couldn't do it on the right day. So then I was going to do a 2nd post later on at some point. Well obviously I didn't manage that. I had this massive paper due today, and despite starting it well in advance it still came down to the wire for some finishing touches and editing. So before I realized it, it was a new day and I hadn't done my second post. I chose sleep (key to success) over doing another post. So I figured I would play catch up today and write two posts. Well that's seems pointless because by the second post I would have nothing to say. So I'm just going to put both videos into this one post. Got it? Plus, I don't have much to say anyway because it's getting to that point in the semester where life is hectic and my brain is on overload. Can you tell? Oh, and Happy Hump Day.

30-Day Challenge #1: TED Talks
Days 18 & 19

Okay so this first one goes with my whole environmental theme. I was talking to some people today about my passion for the environment so this seemed kind of fitting. This one is interesting because it is a talk by Mitchell Joachim about combining biology and architecture to make organic, green homes. It is a very interesting concept. I love biology (I do have a degree in it after all) and I am fascinated by architecture (my brother is an architect) so I find it fascinating to combine the two. Enjoy!

Okay so for this second talk, I chose a talk by Derek Sivers about how to start a movement. It's kind of interesting because he includes some rather interesting footage to support his ideas on how to start a movement. It makes valid points, and is pretty entertaining. Enjoy

Now, I promise that every thing will go back to the daily normalness (except for my hectic life right now, that won't change.)

Happy Halloween!

Hey ya'll. So my internet was down yesterday which left me unable to post. Thus, it is not a failed challenge. I did watch some TED talks on my phone to find one, but couldn't blog it. So here's the post that would've been yesterday. Later today I'll post again.

30-Day Challenge #1: TED Talks
Day 17

Happy Halloween!! Unless you're in CT, in which case Halloween has been rescheduled to Saturday. Yep, that's right. It makes sense though. My Halloweekend was more exciting than I had expected it to be. We had a small Halloween party in class which was nice, and then afterwards I met up with some friends at Mellow Mushroom for some delicious pizza. So that added to the fun Sunday events made for a better weekend than I had been suspecting.

Anyway, I wasn't sure what to look for in TED talks for today, so I decided to just go for something at random. I found this talk by Nathalie Miebach called 'Art made of storms'. It's pretty interesting. She talks about how she makes sculptures and music from weather data. I think it is pretty unique so I hope ya'll like it too.
